A bit fancier than our usual lunch locales with an elegant atmosphere, R Bistro features a regularly changing menu to highlight seasonal ingredients. Choices seem to cry out for an accompanying glass of wine, but alas, we had to return to work so it was iced tea & water for the Duo.
Jennifer selected the BLT, although the R Bistro version is a apple wood smoked bacon, watercress, avocado, with tomato chutney panini. The tomato chutney was fantastic and really made the sandwich, although the bread was also great and the smoked bacon was delish. It was served with a nice mixed green salad with a light vinaigrette dressing, which was a nice accompaniment.
Sheila chose the pasta – ditalini with green lentils, corn and kale. Perhaps a little carb heavy, but the mixture was delicious. The small ditalini paired well with the sweet corn & tender lentils. And for the first time ever, she liked kale. Woo-hoo! The dressing was light and tasty, almost buttery, and very flavorful.
Desserts beckoned, but work beckoned even harder. Next time perhaps, because the sticky toffee pudding sounds intriguing and may need to be sampled.
Service was good – unobtrusive and not pushy at all which is always appreciated. It would be a great spot for a romantic dinner, so perhaps our Zest guest reviewer should make a note of it as a possible place for date night.
